What if I want an abortion?

Are you sure you are pregnant?

We provide free pregnancy tests which are 98% accurate. We can also confirm the viability of your pregnancy with a free ultrasound scan. One out of every 5 pregnancies ends in an early miscarriage, so these free, simple tests may relieve your fears. If your pregnancy is confirmed, AAAPRC offers its clients help and support so decisions can be made.

What if I already took a pregnancy test at home?

Home pregnancy tests indicate a certain level of pregnancy hormone in the blood

However, inaccurate readings or “false positives” are common. False positives can occur when you are pregnant, but experience an early miscarriage. A free pregnancy test and ultrasound will confirm the viability of the pregnancy.

What is a limited obstetrical ultrasound?

A limited ultrasound can be performed up to 16 weeks

if it has been a minimum of 6 weeks since your last menstrual period. The ultrasound scan will be read by our medical director, who is a licensed OB/GYN physician, to determine the viability of the pregnancy. An ultrasound can be scheduled at a later date after the pregnancy test (up to 16 weeks).

Abortion Education

It may seem like abortion will wipe away this situation and you can just move on. It’s not that simple. Abortion is not just a simple medical procedure. For many women, it is a life changing event with significant physical, emotional, and spiritual consequences. Most women who struggle with past abortions say that they wish they had been told all of the facts about abortion and its risks.

Abortion: Be confident in your decision!

Safety Checklist

Have you confirmed your pregnancy?

It’s important to be sure that you are pregnant; it is possible to receive a false indication of pregnancy. We offer free, reliable pregnancy tests and other services that check the viability of your pregnancy.

Do you understand the risks involved in an abortion procedure?

Abortion is a medical procedure and does involve the risk of physical harm. You have the legal right to be informed of the type of procedure you will receive, as well as any potential complications. Ask as many questions as you need, to make sure you understand all that is involved, physically and emotionally.

Did you investigate the qualifications of your potential abortion provider?

Find out the name of the doctor who will perform your abortion procedure, and confirm that he or she is a licensed physician and a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist. Call and ask if the doctor has appropriate privileges to admit you to a hospital in the event that there is an emergency. Also, many states maintain public records about past medical malpractice judgments and settlements. Call the State of Michigan Licensing Board at 517-373-6637 to see if the doctor has been involved in any medical malpractice suits.

Ask how complications are handled
  • Abortion providers may not provide any follow-up or emergency care, should complications arise. Ask the abortion clinic if the abortion doctor has admitting privileges to a hospital nearby should you require emergency care.
Do you understand that it's OK to change your mind?

Abortion is your choice-meaning you can change your mind at any time. It’s OK to say, “I need more time to consider my decision,” if you are in the waiting room or even on the table prepped for your procedure. Don’t feel pressured to proceed just because you feel like you have to. It’s your body; you have the right to listen to your instincts.

This is your decision.
Only you can decide what is best for you.

But we are here to help.

Does AAA PRC Provide post-abortion counseling?

Yes. If you or someone you know has had an abortion and has questions or needs support, contact an AAAPRC Associate for a confidential consultation.
